Navigating food allergies at Disney

A magical (and safe) dining experience

If you or your child has food allergies, traveling can sometimes feel like more trouble than it's worth. But when it comes to dining at Walt Disney World, you'll find that the magic truly extends to the kitchen. Disney has become a leader in allergy-friendly travel, offering peace of mind—and actual delicious meals—to guests with special dietary needs.

From the moment you book a dining reservation, Disney’s system begins working behind the scenes to note allergy info. When you arrive at a restaurant, simply let your server know about any allergies, and a chef will often come out to speak with you personally. This isn’t just for high-end restaurants—it applies even to quick-service spots like Pecos Bill or Satu’li Canteen. You’ll often be handed an allergy-friendly menu right away with options clearly marked by allergen.

Disney kitchens are trained to handle a wide variety of allergies, from gluten and dairy to nuts, shellfish, and more. Cross-contamination is taken seriously, and they have dedicated prep areas in many locations. For parents of kids with severe allergies, the relief of seeing your child eat without fear is immeasurable.

Mobile ordering is also allergy-aware now. You can select from allergy-friendly menu options through the My Disney Experience app, though speaking to a cast member in person is always an option if you feel more comfortable double-checking.

Outside the parks, resort dining follows the same standards. Even character meals—like breakfast at Chef Mickey’s or dinner at 'Ohana—will make allergy accommodations with no fuss and lots of smiles.

A little prep goes a long way. I recommend noting allergies when making reservations, bringing a doctor’s note or allergy card (just in case), and always carrying necessary medications. But once you’re there, you’ll likely be amazed at how easy—and enjoyable—Disney makes it to dine safely and stress-free.
